MUSIC //Q&A With Roccett
Questions by: Zack
TMO: First off I want to thank you for allowing me the opportunity to link up with you. I first heard your music back in 2005 when I was living in upstate NY and I was downright amazed. I must admit when I think West Coast Rap, I think of Roccett within the top echelon, so I am first and foremost a fan. With that said, how are you here and today?
Roccett: I am good. Thanks for having me, I appreciate the support homie.
TMO: Ok I’ve gotten some crazy answers from this question. Tell me, what were you doing right before you started answering this.
Roccett: I just woke up, just getting some breakfast, getting my day started so not doing too much. Enjoying this bowl of cereal u dig.
TMO: Your buzz has been crazy lately which kind of made me even want this Q&A a little more to be honest. Even with that said, since I’ve started to follow west coast hip-hop more I’ve noticed a few people and places that question the amount of respect West Coast hip-hop gets from national media outlets. Do you feel that is true, does the West Coast rap scene get snubbed of it’s due credit? Or is that a cliché that you can find every region claiming from one time to another?
Roccett: Music goes in seasons, in cycles, and right now the West may not be in season all the way so it can look like we aren't getting noticed or respected the way we supposed too. I don't look at it like that, I just continue too make music and grind and I think all the notiriety will come over time and I have been blessed enough too be featured in many of the top magazines, websites, etc, doing my own thing Independent and Unsigned. I don't know if its cliche, but I do know the East Coast artists may feel the same way at this time.
TMO: So “Another Day, Another Dollar” with DJ Scream is incredible, would you consider this one of your best projects?
Roccett: I think its a project that fit its purpose. DJ Scream is a ATL Based DJ, Who is heavy in the streets in the A, I did some music that would cater his audience and cater too the streets of the South. You know just showing my diversity really. The tape been getting a good response so I think its been a good look in that regard.
TMO: “No Way You Can Win” is a very complete song and seems to have gotten some burn out there. I like it! Including that track can you tell me a little about your own feelings for the following songs, also who you worked with on them?
Roccett: No Way You Can Win was produced by Megaman in Florida. Just me letting people know who I am and that I am playing too win.
TMO: “Paperchase”….
Just a feel good record talking about the grind for the money. Get Your Green Up... Good record for Another Day Another Dolla.
TMO: “Ride Wit A G”…

TMO: “Function”...

If you are a fan of hip-hop, this is a must-download!
TMO: So your entire song-making approach, Is it just take a beat and let it rip?
Roccett: I just let the beat and music talk too me. I walk around/pace and come up with the verses in my head. I make music from my heart, my emotions, or however I am feeling that particular day/moment in my life.
TMO: Rick Ross was featured on “You Can Get It” , that’s a crazy track too. Is that track on any other album?
Roccett: No that's something just for the tape.
TMO: You seem to be one of the most active artists on the scene while managing to stay relevant AND digitally available. Many artists have struggled with the entire digital thing so I give you much respect on that. Overall though what is your take on digital media? What has it done to music, either positive or negative?
Roccett: It has given new artists without a record deal an opportunity too spread our music. Digital media is an outlet, a platform for growth. Artists don't have too sit around and let others dictate and control us, we can try and make it happen for ourselves.
TMO: You’re a Makavelli Clothing affiliated artist. That has been a seemingly been a long-lasting relationship. Can you tell me more about your affiliation with Makavelli?
Roccett: I am a Makaveli Branded sponsored artist. I have been in ad campaigns, I support and get involved with the brand in any way possible. Shout to Makaveli Branded, being involved w anything Pac is an honor.
TMO: That must make you proud to represent the company spawned from one-of, if not the-best rapper to ever walk the earth right? Its a great honor.
Roccett: Yeah def proud too rep Pac in any way.
TMO: So as I mentioned I lived in upstate NY for most of my life, tell me who else I SHOULD BE listening to from the West coast scene?
Roccett: You should throw that Roccett in and turn it all the way up. There a lot of talented young rappers out of the west doing they thing also.
TMO: Oh man, you already know, I download everything I can and I keep the Roccett CD. So you have done countless interviews and press inquiries, let me ask, what is the single question you would ask yourself if you were in my position?
Roccett: What would you change about the rap game today?
